The white ash tree scientific name is Fraxinus Americana. They grow in the hills and in the autumn they turn purple. Their leaves are glossy and their strong thick branches emerge as their colored, glossy, leaves scatter to the ground. These trees can grow trunks that several people, holding hands, cannot embrace the largeness. The wood from this tree has been used for everything from bentwood chairs, handles, and baseball bats!
White ash trees are often found by water, like a stream or even a little pond. Make sure the soil will provide the tree with moisture all year. It does not like dry soils, but prefers a moist woodland site. It will grow the same in hevier soils that hold water well. Make sure the white ash is never planted where late spring frosts occur, its early growth is sensitive to frost, so choose a site where cold air will drain away on quiet spring nights.
The white ash provides useful shade. Some say that if you rub the trees leaves on a mosquito bite your itching will be relieved. It is almost as good as bug guard. For many gardeners, this may be reason enough to plant this handy tree.
