The fig tree is an amazing site indeed, with muscular and twisting branches spreading wider then tall. The fig tree grows to the height of 10 - 30 feet, and sometimes as tall as 50 feet. The fig tree leaves are bright green and up to a foot in length.
The fig tree fruit has a tough peel, which cracks upon ripening. Beneath the peel can be found a jelly like pulp with a white inner rind, and lots of tiny edible seeds. Figs must remain on the tree to fully ripen, and then only last 2-3 days after being picked.
Fig trees require a large area and will shade out anything trying to grow beneath its heavy canopy. The fig tree needs full sun all day to ripen its fruit. The root system extends out much further than its branches, with tiny fine roots that will invade near by gardens. Trimming the tiny roots will not harm the fig tree.
